Innovating Beyond the Screen

HTC
May 2012–July 2016

My experience at HTC has taught me to adapt my skillset to handle any design problem, even if it doesn't have a common understanding in the design space. As one of the first half-dozen UX designers working on the first room-scale VR product, I created in-VR common controls along with a design consultant that allowed other designers to work faster and create a seamless experience.

Furthermore, I worked on HTC's wearables projects for almost a year and a half. During my time, I worked on nearly a half-dozen different types of devices, from smart bands to scales. I learned how to quickly understand the use cases and balance business needs simultaneously with a focus on creating the best user experience. My leadership skills and confidence allowed me to deliver exceptional results.

These experiences taught me that UX design is more than just what appears on the screen. It must consider the outside world just as much as the user interface. My confidence in handling complex design problems and delivering high-impact results is unwavering.

My role

  • Led the UX for wearables for 1.5 years
  • Worked on six different wearable projects, including smart bands and scales
  • Collaborated closely with HTC's ID team to ensure compatibility between UX and hardware
  • Conducted research along side of User Researcher to understand user pain points and goals
  • Worked with development and product teams in Taiwan to build wearable products
  • Led the creation of common controls for in-VR experiences for the VR project
  • Acted as the main point of contact and directed a contracted agency hired to support the VR common control project
  • Presented to the UX leadership team throughout all
 the projects.
